Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils in a holistic way to enhance psychological and physical well being. There are a wide number of essentials oils available, each with its own healing properties and used for a variety of applications, including pain relief, mood enhancement and increased cognitive function.
Aromatherapy is generally applied in one of three ways:
Topically - applied directly to and absorbed through the skin, traveling through
the bloodstream promoting well being.
Direct inhalation - the person breathes the evaporating oils straight in. This is commonly used for respiratory disinfection, decongestion as well as stimulating brain function.
Aerial diffusion - the oils evaporate into the air. The aim is to give the air a specific
fragrance or to disinfect it.
